Work

Work is..... amazing! I spend 1 hour with new patients and 45 with returns (or less if needed). Most of the things i was unsure about (note writing, neck manipulations, running on time...) are totally fine and getting through a work day is actually really fun. Its super satisfying work making people feel better :) And its so awesome to feel good at the end of the day - not tired and cruddy, but refreshed and happy! I work with some amazing people/osteopaths who are all reallllly supportive and have confidence in me :) and at the risk of sounding cocky; i actually think im good at this job :)
Currently I'm treating about 30 patients per week, and I know I said I'm not gonna work that much... but 9-10 hours days go really quickly and its a fun way to spend the day..... so I am actually working 40 hours/week (when fully booked). Plus i have lonnng lunches :)

Applecross (Mon 10-7, Thurs 9-6, Sat 8-1):
A little slower than I would like, but ever picking up and with recent advertisements sent out and moving out of christmas period it should improve even more. This is a cool place with a heap of other therapists sharing a lot of cute rooms- I share these two rooms with Osteopaths Nicole and Allanna as well as bowen therapist Sylvana:

Fremantle (Wed 10-7, Fri 8-5):
Freo is really chilled out - i can basically work whatever hours i want and its really flexible. The practice has been around for over 25 years so well established and busy - i have been pretty busy since my first day there which is nice. We're about to loose alot of staff here due to pregnancy and travel, so it will be getting even crazier!

This is the room i use most often:

What Perth is made of...

Perth is an amazing city. The sun is always shining, nature is thriving, the buildings are charming and the water clear, inviting and all too accessible. I'm very lucky to be living so close to the river. Fremantle is the same yet with lots of character as well as nice places to eat and drink with friends :)

Georgia and I spent Australia day in a pub on the marina, then fish and chips before a beach beverage and finished with the city fireworks from the riverside :)Big Day Out was amazing as expected - but it was my first insight into how many bogans live in Perth. I have heard they are prevalent, but they came out of the woodwork by the thousands on this day - this included our train ride TO the festival being spoilt by teenagers so wasted that they were vomiting on the train.... at midday. None the less, the day was not ruined and it seems they have retreated again since - or at least not crossed my path!

As well as BDO, I've been to some small gigs and a few fringe festival shows in town. All were fantastic and makes Melbourne feel not so far away :)
FYI: Food and drinks really are expensive here - its really hard to get a meal under $20.

The last few nights I've discovered how easy a beach lifestyle is - enjoying a quick dip in the ocean at sunset is the perfect way to end a hot, busy day. The ocean breeze is softer, water calmer and no harsh sun at this time of day - so its the ultimate beach situation as far as im concerned - no sunscreen or sunglasses needed and no sand flying everywhere nor do you need to get your head wet. This will become a favourite pastime - just imagine this photo even closer up in the water :)

Perth heat wave continues: Apparently one of the hottest summers on record. The only few days for 2011 we've had under 30 were 29.8 and most days of feb have been 33-37 degrees!

Of houses and homes

So it's time for a massive life update!

Home 1:
I've been living since my arrival on the 14th of January with Merv and Dulcie in Bicton. For those of you not in the know - Dulcie is a distant cousin of mine. I had never met them nor any of their immediate family before, but it seems not to matter. With the gossip imparted on to my ears during my daily river walks with Dulcie, I feel like part of the family. The location is also amazing - Bicton is a suburb just east of Fremantle on the Swan River which is a stunning place at anytime of day. If the amount of times I've disappeared after dinner to avoid the dishes is anything to go by, then i've really made myself at home here.

This is what my daily river walks look like:

The Bicton river walk takes me to Point Walter which has a really long sand bar that nearly crosses the whole river and at low tide you can (and I do) walk right out to the end (although you can't even leave the shore in high tide)!

Home 2:
After weeks of applying for and visiting sharehouses i decided to inspect some rental properties. Both options had some nice places, but nothing was quite right. But then, timely as always, i placed an ad online mentioning that i was thinking of renting a property (one that i had not yet inspected but that looked great online). I had a million responses, but the first one came from a lovely girl Nicole, whom apon meeting became an instant friend. [Turns out by a stroke of luck (or universal coercion) that Nicole almost moved in with my friends Alison and Jedrick a few weeks earlier and that they got along really well. And to further the coincidence the house we were to inspect was DIRECTLY across the road from their property. literally front doors on opposite sides of the road.]

Anyhow come inspection day i was in love. With the house that is. It was perfect and far better than anything i had seen yet. The problem was, if we didnt get it, i have no idea what i would have done..... I'm not one to settle for second best... Nicole and I didnt want to leave our application only to luck, so we added some additional 'suck up' documents and business cards, which must have had some effect for we won the bid. Come March 9th we'll be leasing the perfect property :)

Following this, the we decided to rent the studio out the back to a couple. The first that we contacted (Wade and Paticia) turns out are friends with a patient of mine, and the rest is history. We all get along really well and we really think the lease will work. A new place for us all to while away the next 1-2+ years. So the last week has seen the universe loving us even more by throwing a house full of free furniture our way ready for our big move.
