Day 18: Copenhagen life

Today I went and hired a bike to cruise around and see more of the town (and consequently not photo much I'm afraid). Was really fun though, some cute streets, shopping areas, cafes and a funny commune place (Christiania) right close to town centre where marajuana is legal and there just hippies with stalls everywhere and signs that say "no photos, have fun and no running - it causes panic". Hahaha no running because of paranoia. Funny. It turns out is little place is a free state where society laws are not applied, nor taxes! It was actually quite take though I must say.

And lunch by a small canal... Salmon tartar :) really yummy! And a carlsberg of course...

I climbed the highest tower steeple thing in Copenhagen which gave great perspective to the town...

Later on I hunted down the only known rock climbing place... Built on the wall of an apartment building next to 'banana park'. Which is just an oval with a giant plastic banana on it...? Unfortunately I wasn't brave enough to ask to join (would've involved using people's gear and interrupting and stuff... Not to mention that there was probably only 1-2 climbs on there easy enough for me!) so just sat and watched for a bit... 

Frat place I walked into for dinner.... Turns out they were in the Michelin magazine! (But not starred yet I don't think). Braised beef and veg...

Then rhubarb sorbet, crumble and sour grape things.

Day 17: Drizzle and some Danish icons

Went off to find my first Danish breakfast. My decision landed on this - rye bread, jams, fruits, yoghurt and apple. Very standard for Dane cuisine, although most people in the cafe had more cheese and a boiled egg. In fact it seems the most Danish thing you can eat is an open sandwich on dense rye with toppings. The most popular being tuna cheese and caviar piled on thick! Really cool that they always use this super healthy bread.

Another walk through the cemetery... This time in the rain. Which looked on the cards for most if the day so thinking of doing a museum hike indoors today...

Ended up at the botanical gardens

And then onto the state museum. This place was nice - had a good selection of Danish art as well as French (love them both), and again the slightly more painful Italian art. A lot of the Danish art were done by travellers all across Europe and Middle East, so that was cool to see. Like travel postcards from a time before photos. And the museum also had a fantastic modern section.

Wasn't going to eat here, and then saw what the lunch special was. Pulled pork sandwich with fennel and herb oil. Umm, museum food? Denmark you are amazing!

Not far from here is Rosenberg Slot (castle). This is where all of the Crown Jewels and many other historical pieces are kept.

The castle was more of less about 50 rooms all kept in the periods and with the actual furnishings on the respective rulers (was hard to keep up, they weren't in order - Christian V, Christian VI, Frederick VII etc etc...) spanning many centuries. Interesting, but full on how every inch of every room is covered in paintings of royals and such... Being as artist really would have been a good job back then

And then there's the artillery section. So so many guns boys! And many jewels incrusted like these...

With a tiger prawn pasta with lobster sauce.... The prawns tasted like crab... Dunno if its cos they were giant or just overcooked (which they definitely were!)....
