Another fun meal at the hotel for breakfast and a glorious childlike play in the gardens. This is the real English countryside I was wanting to see...
Then off again to Edinburgh, via gorgeous North Yorkshire seaside town Whitby, and a few windy detours through the moors and little villages.
Whitby
Lunch at a classic pub in Guisborough. Here is my meal (with a hand for size comparison), a steak pie, chips and veg, all surprisingly well cooked and relatively yummy, but yes, that is also about litreof gravy to accompany!! It arrived like this, was hella hard work to get through! As for Felice, she thought she'd see what a 'parmesan chicken' was... Turns out its a slab of chicken with a thick as layer of white sauce coated in a thick layer of melted cheese of some sort (NOT Parmesan). With the top removed it was edible!!... Actually tickled me pink, just the grungy pub experience I was looking for, the staff were gold.
First driving border crossing!! But the photo spot was closed for roadworks, so no proof of that here...but as soon as we hit Scotland, the clouds parted for the first time all day to expose not only the sun but some serious heat! Amazing!
So we arrived in Edinburgh, in surprising heat, to check in to our accommodation, which was stunning!! The couple are from London, but of Indian descent and had an immensely clean, (like not a crumb in sight, not a chair out of alignment with a table.... The whole time we were there!) and adorable place over two stories in a cool suburban area about half hours walk from the centre of town.
We had pizza and beer in 'the meadows', a massive park just to our side of the 'city'. Along with a million other local having barbecues and enjoying the unusually hot weather. After this we went to a local pub to visit a friend of Felice's who worked there, and then an after dark sight seeing walk home to our cosy as apartment.
