After checking out the glass exhibition, Felice and I went to the EMP museum next door - well known for its epic Nirvana exhibition and for all things Seattle music scene.
This is in the entrance!
After this we went straight to the Nirvana display, not having much time left befor closing, but we returned the next day to see the whole place, including a recap of the Nirvana section. So here I'll cover the two days together.
First up - the horror film section. This contained artefacts from many of the most famous horror films in history and also had some great displays and films on the art of horror film making.
The entrance into the dungeon was fun - a spiral staircase with images of screaming faces!
And then the 'specimens'
Real life Giger!!!
A stake from Buffy the vampire slayer
There was a booth you went into to look 'scared' or 'scary' depending on what the computer told you. It told us to be scary. We were also meant to scream, as the booth was sound proof. We refrained.
And even a suit from the Thriller film clip!
Men in Black weapon
The next section covered modern music film clips...
And hosted the milk from the Blur film clip!!
And then onto the fantasy section - decked out in trees, dragons and placa for children to hide in, this was really cool and full of great surprises!
Sting!
The Nirvana expo had a heap of videos of discussions about the bands revolution of the Seattle music scene, but also had a million artefacts! Most of which - guitars, clothing and models - every nirvana fan would recognise. Definitely the best collection of original Nirvana stuff anywhere in the world. As you'll see below, the is also original photographs and letters that the guys wrote when the band was still young.

That evening, we ventured to a new part of town, Ballard to meet Gerry and one of Felice's friends for dinner and dessert. The suburb was very odd - very wealthy and nice places, but street was empty and close to the docks. Strange people, bad over priced food. We loved it at first sight, but were sick of it by the end - after failing at getting a good meal! Strange...
Farewells to Gerry and Scrappy Dawg, a mouthful of grapes and a final look at the luxurious house!
The next morning the three of us went for a paddle, in the almost-rain. Felice and Gerry had a kayak each and I went on the stand up paddle board. We went quite a ways, and there was some waves, so I'm quite surprised i didn't fall of!! But had numb cramped feet in the end that's for sure! After this we quickly packed up - we had a 6+ hour drive ahead for the day!
The weather was not boding well, but we took a chance anyway and headed for Mt. Rainer. Yes, yes, the name says it all. I at least saw this STUNNING mountain once from a distance in Seattle, but poor Felice can now say she officially went there, to the very base of it, and still never got a glimpse!! The fog was so low and the rain meant that we never even caught a slither of view of the monstrous mountain. I was pretty sad - it is the most postcard perfect mountain (because it's volcanic) that I've ever seen, yet we didn't really ever see it, despite going so far. Will have to return for that one for sure!
Nonetheless - the drive (yep, I mastered a hire car on foreign roads) there was damn damn beautiful - Washington countryside in the fall really was spectacular.
And the most unpleasant looking well - mineral rusted water having flown from it into the lake below - there were signs of course saying not to drink.
And on to Oregon!!
