What Perth is made of...

Perth is an amazing city. The sun is always shining, nature is thriving, the buildings are charming and the water clear, inviting and all too accessible. I'm very lucky to be living so close to the river. Fremantle is the same yet with lots of character as well as nice places to eat and drink with friends :)

Georgia and I spent Australia day in a pub on the marina, then fish and chips before a beach beverage and finished with the city fireworks from the riverside :)Big Day Out was amazing as expected - but it was my first insight into how many bogans live in Perth. I have heard they are prevalent, but they came out of the woodwork by the thousands on this day - this included our train ride TO the festival being spoilt by teenagers so wasted that they were vomiting on the train.... at midday. None the less, the day was not ruined and it seems they have retreated again since - or at least not crossed my path!

As well as BDO, I've been to some small gigs and a few fringe festival shows in town. All were fantastic and makes Melbourne feel not so far away :)
FYI: Food and drinks really are expensive here - its really hard to get a meal under $20.

The last few nights I've discovered how easy a beach lifestyle is - enjoying a quick dip in the ocean at sunset is the perfect way to end a hot, busy day. The ocean breeze is softer, water calmer and no harsh sun at this time of day - so its the ultimate beach situation as far as im concerned - no sunscreen or sunglasses needed and no sand flying everywhere nor do you need to get your head wet. This will become a favourite pastime - just imagine this photo even closer up in the water :)

Perth heat wave continues: Apparently one of the hottest summers on record. The only few days for 2011 we've had under 30 were 29.8 and most days of feb have been 33-37 degrees!
