So from Victoria I caught the 'Clipper' directly to Seattle. It was a pretty boring boat ride to be honest! Full of people, no real view from my seat and prolonged customs at both ends (wasn't sure if they'd let me into the US this time!!).
I disembarked into the hot Seattle heat, to meet Gerry right at the exit! Jumped in her Valet parked monster vehicle and after recovering from the heat and long trip, we proceeded to Pike Place markets to have a quick look around. This is one of Seattle most famous places. (A tad over rated...?!) then we headed back out to Kirkland, on the northern edge of Lake Washington, where Gerry was living with her son and his family. She had only movd to a Seattle a week earlier from San Diego!
Turns out I am the first person that 'Scrappy Dawg' hasn't bitten! This is the worlds most spoilt dog!
Once settled and fed, we hit the water (which is right on the back door step) for a sundown kayak.
Mt Ranier in the distance on the left!
Then popcorn and a movie before bed.
The next day we both had free, so decided to go for a little drive to visit some ice caves. We had to take Scrappy with us! But more about that cheeky dog later...
To see the ice caves there was a nice 40 min stroll through the forest
The caves are actually just holes in the edge of a small glacial remain on the side of the mountain. The caves were dripping heavily and you could see that it was far too dangerous to actually go inside! Nonetheless, there are always stupid people! A lot who were going deep in to the unstable cavern.
Instead of going inside, I opted to play on a small piece of ice just off to the side. It was far to slippery to climb at all! Although I tried!
We walked over to another ice cave further from where all the tourists were and we actually heard some fresh ice fall! It was super loud and afterwards we saw the fresh ice at the base of the cave. Don't worry - we kept our distance!
The next day I went to work with Gerry which was awesome! I co-treated everyone and had a great day - Gerry truly is one of the best Osteo's around!
And then! Left work to find Felice waiting for us at Gerrys place! Yay! Was so awesome to see her again.
We headed out for Seattle city the next morning. First stop - pike place markets again, and right next to it - the first ever star bucks!!! But instead of going there, we were lured into a wine bar next door for an 11am wine and honey tasting. Which turned out to be a great idea cos the staff were full of tips for us - places to see/not to see in Seattle and Portland.
One of the most popular sights at the Pike Place Markets is this fish store. The men all throw the fish to each other when ordered and sing sea hearty songs! Quite funny to watch!
Next stop - the SPACE NEEDLE! Well after lunch in a funky/seedy pub anyway...
Under the needle there was a big exhibition by local artist Chihuly, the blown glass dude. He has designed some of the most amazing pieces! Most of which took up the whole size of a room!
