Woke to fresh baguette, butter, jams and a bowl of Chai today (Diane is a long time traveller so the chai was an awesome treat - closest to Indian that I've had!). Amazing.
Then went strolling around the Marais and surrounds for a few hours ...
(Hotel de Ville)
And crossed the Siene...
... to end up on top of the Notre dame
Then off for my first French meal - confit duck leg with a glass of rouge. As expected - really quick and simple and relatively cheap but seriously yum.
At this point I was hitting the wall hard ('twas somehow 6 hours touring and still in super negative sleep status) so went to rest with a book for a few hours back at the bodroir. Still not 100% in holiday mode, but well on my way. I have no idea how people do Paris in 2 days though! In my almost week I will be hard pressed to fit all my things (and chilling) in!
Went out again that evening more strolling (clocking up 10+k for the day) to the main Jewish st which hosts a felafel shop widely renouned as the best I Paris, perhaps the world?! It really was something else. I'm starting to notice just what people say about the food here, you don't know how but they just the the flavours and textures so bang on. In this the felafels were delicious and moist, yet crunchy on the outside, the eggplants, coleslaw and sauces were finger linking good and even the pita that looked normal was soft and buttery in flavour. Heaven!
So pottered around eating that before choosing a little (but packed) wine bar to sit at facing the street at an open bench, indulged in chocolate mouse and a glass of rouge du vin.
In case I haven't mentioned. It doesn't get dark here until 11pm. And that's being modest. It is mental, there's families with children everywhere having dinner at 10 or so. Damn Perth.
